The retail industry has the combined requirements of in-store and mall security. In-store video surveillance is localized often with analog video cameras combined with DVRs. The number of cameras is influenced by the size of the store and the value of the merchandise per square foot. Shopping malls are important consumers of security systems. The main threat that shopping malls want to address is anything that might compromise the safety of their customers. Some mall owners establish their own security systems while others rely on 3rd party security specialists. Security systems have to be tailored to the location of a mall (urban or suburban), whether the site has free or paid parking, whether the mall includes multiplex theatres or late-night dining, and whether the mall includes blind spots, jewelry stores, or poorly lit back corridors. Analytics are often employed to monitor statistics such as the number of customers waiting in lines in retail settings to determine optimal staffing. |
